Celtic Star Named in SPFL Team of the Week

Celtic winger Yang Hyun-Jun has been recognised for his outstanding performance against St. Mirren by earning a spot in the SPFL Team of the Week. The South Korean international was the only Hoops player to make the team, and his inclusion is even more remarkable given that he started the match on the bench.

Impactful Substitution

Yang entered the game in the 64th minute, replacing Celtic skipper Callum McGregor, and wasted no time in making his mark. His energy and movement provided Celtic with an extra attacking spark, and he proved to be decisive in the closing stages of the game.

Two Goals Off the Bench

Yang’s first goal came in the 68th minute when he brilliantly nodded home a Reo Hatate cross at the back post. The precision and power of his header left St. Mirren goalkeeper Zach Hemming with no chance, putting Celtic 3-2 ahead in a tightly contested game.

Then, deep into stoppage time, in the 90+3rd minute, Yang struck again to seal an emphatic 5-2 victory for the Hoops. Jeffrey Schlupp provided a pinpoint cross to the back post, where Yang was perfectly positioned to head in his second goal of the night. It was a brilliant display of composure and aerial threat from the winger, who completed a dream substitute cameo appearance.

Rewarded for His Form

Yang’s inclusion in the Team of the Week is well deserved, as he continues to build momentum in a Celtic shirt. Just four days prior, he also found the net in the 5-1 win over Aberdeen, further cementing him as one of Celtic’s most in-form players alongside Daizen Maeda.

A Rising Star at Celtic

Since arriving in Glasgow, Yang has steadily grown into his role, and performances like this will only strengthen his case for more regular starts. His ability to impact games from the bench is a huge asset for Celtic as they push forward in their pursuit of another domestic treble this season.

Earning a place in the SPFL Team of the Week is a testament to Yang’s hard work and quality, and Celtic fans will be excited to see what he delivers next against Hibernian on Sunday at Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup.
