Celtic’s head of youth, Chris McCart has revealed that hoops star, Callum McGregor thought his career at the Champions was over at the age of just 20, before going on to becoming one of the first names on the team-sheet.
As reported by the Daily Record, McCart was speaking about some of the successes from the Celtic academy, after Scotland’s Euro 2020 heroes which defeated Serbia last week, featured six players who had been in the academy, including McGregor.
After being sent out on loan, to Notts County for the season, the midfielder thought his time was up in the Green and White.
“Callum McGregor was exceptional as a youth player but I remember when he was 20 he was ignoring my calls when we were looking to send him down to Notts County. He thought that was the end of his Celtic career but when it was really the beginning.”
Since that loan spell, McGregor has clearly come on leaps and bounds and has become one of the best players in the country now.

This loan spell set him in good stead, to go on and have the successful Celtic career he has had in the last few years. He really has become a top player since then and continues to impress the Celtic faithful week in, week out.
