Celtic Star Confirms Silent Snub by New International Boss

SCOTT BAIN has said Steve Clarke never explained why he was dropping him as Scotland number one’s goalkeeper after the former Killie boss took charge this summer.

Clarke played two games and opted for ex-Celtic trainee David Marshall in goals rather than Bain who had made the role his own in recent times.

It was a shock to many but Clarke clearly wanted to go for Marshall’s experience but you would have thought the new Scotland boss would have communicated to Bain why Marshall was getting the nod. Instead, there was silence and the keeper just tried to go about his business at training to prove he deserves a shot at the gloves again.

Bain came from nowhere last season to be Celtic’s number one and Scotland’s. The Scottish star knows, as quickly as it happens it can change and is hoping this won’t be his end as a first team Scotland goalkeeper.

“No, I never spoke to the manager. I don’t know if I was surprised not to play.” he told SunSport.

“When Marsh got called into the squad I thought he would be playing.

“From there it was a case of doing the best I could and if my performances in training helped him to push on then that would be the goal.

“Marsh performed really well in the games. We got a good result against Cyprus and a good performance against Belgium, so I think they would be happy with what happened.

“I have always said I set no goals for Scotland. I always focus on club football and now that’s at Celtic and trying to perform to the high levels of before.

“If I can do that continuously and consistently it should stand me in good stead.”
