Celtic Star Comments on Fraser Forster Speculation

CRAIG GORDON has the gloves again until at least Scott Bain is injury-free but the goalkeeper still has the desire to fight anyone who wants to be Celtic number one.

When asked at Wednesday’s press conference about speculation linking former Celtic number one Fraser Forster with a move back to the club – Gordon joked about the situation.

“It doesn’t matter who is in here, I want to play. And the only way I can do that is by playing well.” he told CelticTV.

“If he does bring in another goalkeeper, then I’ll need to play very well to make sure I keep my place.

“If I don’t, I’ll have to live with that.

“I’ll happily fight anyone for their place. Not actually fight them! But you know what I mean. Not big Fraser, I wouldn’t fight him for it!

“But joking aside, that’s the mentality I have, no matter what.”

Gordon is now 36 and his current Celtic deal is up in the summer. If he does manage to become Celtic’s number one over the course of the season it’s highly likely Celtic will need to bring in new competition for Scott Bain either in January or next summer.

Forster has been surplus to requirements at Southampton but no official approach has ever been made to bring the player back to Celtic. His wages would be a tremendous stumbling block and there are many fans who just don’t like the club to sign former players.

Right now, Gordon is the man between the sticks and has to be at his best over the next four games with a doubleheader against AIK with domestic outings against Hearts and The Rangers.
