The 22-year-old was selected by South Korea’s coach Jurgen Klinsmann for their friendly match against Peru, marking his first start after three previous appearances as a substitute.

However, Oh’s performance was marred by two missed chances in the first half, leading to his substitution after the break. The match, held in Busan, ended in a 1-0 defeat for South Korea.

Oh, who has scored seven times for Celtic since joining in January, expressed his disappointment and regret over his performance.

He said: [SunSport]

“I should have scored two goals and I am ashamed of myself for not being able to convert the chances.

“I am also ashamed for the fans who came to watch that and support me and the team.

“I was chosen as the representative striker of South Korea and therefore I should score.

“For me, there were lots of moments in the match that I wasn’t good enough, such as my movements.”

Acknowledging his role as South Korea’s representative striker, Oh admitted that his performance was lacking in several aspects, including his movements. He said

“It was my first start for my country, but there were a lot of things that I lacked. There are so many things to improve or do in the future.”

Despite the disappointment, Oh revealed that Coach Klinsmann encouraged him not to be too disheartened and to keep pushing forward.

“Coach Klinsmann told me not to be too heartbroken and to keep going when he spoke to me after I was substituted.

“I wanted to present my first win to the coach, but it’s very sad that I couldn’t. I will do my best to make it possible in the future.”
