Some Celtic fans were hoping he’d stick around a lot longer but it appears Mohamed Elyounoussi is getting prepared for life after Celtic.
The Norwegian came in with a bang but due to an injury has fully rediscovered his form — since getting back fir he was used sparingly because of Celtic’s 3-5-2 system.
With the season in the balance and the looming potential it all could be over with eight games to go — Mohamed could have already played his last game for the club.
While he doesn’t know what the future holds — the winger is set on trying to make it with Southampton in the Premier League.
“I still have three years left of the contract with Southampton,” he told SunSport.
“I want to show a better side of myself than what I have done.
“I hope I can go back and fight for a place next season.
“But at the same time, I really want to finish the season at Celtic and win the league.”
“I’ve had injuries but it’s been a very nice time in Celtic, especially after how things were going in Southampton.
“It’s a very strange situation. The plan was a holiday in late May, before I meet for pre-season with Southampton.
“But now I don’t quite know what will happen.”
Celtic have Fraser Forster on loan too from the St Mary’s club. Celtic fans are more hopeful the club will try and keep Fraser at Celtic beyond this season but if that’s not possible then he also could have played his last game for Celtic.
So much is up in the air — the more clarity we can get the better. One things for sure, when next season comes Elyounoussi won’t be here.
