Celtic have sparked into life in the past 24 hours. No sooner had Leigh Griffiths been signed on a new one-year contract, the club had made their first summer signing under Ange Postecoglou. Osaze Urhoghide has been snapped up from Sheffield Wednesday and now we’re off to the races.
On Friday morning, well placed journalist Stephen McGowan has revealed the club are stepping up their efforts to sign Hibernian star Kevin Nisbet.
Kevin had a standout season with the Edinburgh side, so much so, he was called up to the Euros and even got some minutes in Steve Clarke’s side.
It’s safe to say, Kevin is still on the ascendancy and he’s a talent Celtic appear to covet.
McGowan revealed a sizeable offered for the striker was already turned down in January and Kevin could cost as much as £4m.
Writing in MailSport, McGowan said: ‘Birmingham City had a package worth £3.2m turned down in January, and the Championship side remain in the hunt for Nisbet alongside Swansea, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Russian club FC Krasnodar.’
‘The club [Celtic] need fresh blood up front and work has begun to establish how much it would cost to lure Nisbet from Easter Road, with the Edinburgh outfit thought to be holding out for more than £4million.’
Celtic need a mixture of youth and experience this term. Right now, a lot of the rumours flying around are of young players coming in.
Ange Postecoglou will have to strike that balance.
Nisbet has been seen hanging around with a lot of the Celtic/Scottish contingent after the Euros and seems to have built a rapport with the bhoys.
I would imagine the player would fancy a move but £4m is a lot of cash for a player who has had one top flight season.
