Celtic seem to have silently confirmed James McCarthy’s departure from the club by removing his profile from the squad list on their official website.
While there has been no formal announcement from Celtic’s official channels regarding McCarthy’s exit, the absence of his name from the team roster on their website seems to serve as an indirect confirmation.

When rumours of his exit picked up over the weekend, he was still listed on the website.
James McCarthy, who signed a four-year contract with Celtic at the same time as Joe Hart joined the Hoops, has had a challenging tenure at the club. Despite bringing a wealth of Premier League experience, McCarthy struggled to cement a consistent place in the first team. Over three seasons, he featured in 27 matches for Celtic, with the majority being substitute appearances.
His last outing in the first team was during a League Cup match against Motherwell in October 2022. Subsequent appearances were limited to the B Team, signalling a reduced role within the squad. The removal of his profile from Celtic’s website suggests that his time at the club has indeed come to an end, marking the end of his chapter at Celtic.
