Celtic Should Buy The Best Centre-Back In The Country – Sutton

Chris Sutton filled in his blank white space in the Daily Record this morning with criticism of Stevie G, a lot of praise for Aberdeen and a recommendation that Celtic need to buy “the best centre-back in the country this season”.

He was, of course, talking about Dons defender Scott McKenna. Celtic fans know that a massive summer transfer saga is about to unfold. With the likes of Boyata, Benkovic and Lustig all looking likely to exit Celtic Park, there will be an urgent need for recruitment.

McKenna has been subject to a Celtic bid before, the problem is Aberdeen’s evaluation fee for the player. Celtic were not willing to go 4 plus million pounds on a 22-year-old. Will they be in the summer? Will it be desperation?

Sutton who wasn’t a stranger to the centre-back position in his playing days feels the young Scot has the attributes.

“He may not be a ball-playing defender but the good thing is he knows it and keeps it simple. Ask the 22-year-old to defend and do the basics and he does it better than anyone.”

“If you want someone who will head, run, put the ball in row Z occasionally when it’s required coupled with sheer guts, will to win and reliability then McKenna is your man.”

One thing is for sure, Celtic will need to get new signings in early, their season starts in July.
