Celtic Set to Make Scottish Football Streaming History

Celtic will break new ground for Scottish football next week when their Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich becomes the first-ever match involving a Scottish club to be streamed on Amazon Prime in the UK.

Amazon, which holds broadcasting rights for select Champions League fixtures, has chosen to feature Bayern vs Celtic as part of its package, meaning subscribers to Amazon Prime Video will be able to watch the game live. It marks a historic first for Scottish football.

Fans heading to Amazon UK’s website will see Celtic front and centre on the site’s slider, highlighting just how much focus Amazon is putting on this game. It’s a rare sight to see a Scottish club given such prominence on a global streaming platform, and it reflects the massive interest in this fixture.

A Must-Watch Return Leg

Celtic head to Munich next Wednesday trailing 2-1 from the first leg, but Brendan Rodgers’ side will take confidence from their strong finish at Celtic Park. The Hoops started brightly when Nicolas Kühn thought he had given them the lead, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.

Bayern eventually found a way through when Michael Olise curled home a stunning opener just before halftime, and things got worse when Harry Kane was left unmarked from a corner to make it 2-0 early in the second half.

However, Rodgers’ tactical tweaks turned the game, with Celtic finishing the match strongly. Daizen Maeda pulled a goal back in the 79th minute, following an excellent assist from substitute Yang Hyun-jun, and Bayern were forced into time-wasting tactics as Celtic piled on late pressure.

There was also controversy, with Arne Engels appearing to be fouled in the box, only for the referee to review the footage and wave away penalty appeals—a decision that left fans inside Parkhead furious.

With the tie still in the balance, the second leg promises to be another dramatic night in Celtic’s European campaign. While Bayern remain favourites, Celtic have nothing to lose and will be hoping for a famous result at the Allianz Arena, however unlikely that may be.

A Landmark Moment for Scottish Football

For fans, this will be a new way to experience a major Celtic match, marking Amazon Prime’s first-ever involvement in broadcasting a Scottish club fixture. With streaming services gaining more control over football coverage, this could be a sign of things to come for how Scottish football is distributed in the future.

As Celtic look to defy the odds in Munich, they’ll also be breaking new ground off the pitch, ensuring that their historic European journey will be watched by fans in a new and innovative way.
