The 43-year-old Italian was previously considered for the Celtic managerial role before Ange Postecoglou was appointed in 2021.

Maresca had made a strong impression on Dermot Desmond, before the decision was made to hire Postecoglou.

Despite Postecoglou’s successful tenure, Celtic has continued to monitor Maresca’s career and is understood to be interested in re-engaging with him following Postecoglou’s confirmed move to Tottenham Hotspur.

He had an underwhelming stint with Parma in Serie B and was sacked after a poor run in November.

Insiders at Etihad Stadium are reportedly anticipating Celtic’s renewed interest in Maresca, who recently declined an offer from Southampton.

Maresca has been working closely with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and is currently preparing for Saturday’s Champions League final against Inter Milan.

Celtic is expected to initiate preliminary contact this week, with plans to discuss Maresca’s potential future at the club in more detail after the Champions League final in Istanbul. This development signifies Celtic’s proactive approach to finding a worthy successor to Postecoglou, aiming to ensure the club’s continued success in the coming seasons.
