Celtic set for Unexpected Windfall

Celtic could be set to land an unexpected windfall after the club chose to box clever with regards to a former youth talent.

Aaron Hickey chose not to sign a professional deal with Celtic when he turned 16 and decided to head back to Tynecastle where he has been developing.

According to SunSport, Hickey, 19 is being tracked by Southampton and Manchester City with the defender set to make a move from Edinburgh in January.

If this is the case, Celtic own 30% of the player’s future fee for Hearts after the club rejected the standard initial compensation to cash in further down the line.

If the January bids surface from down south it will look like a masterstroke by the decision makers at Celtic who would’ve earned more from the sell-on fee than they would’ve from compensation. The fee being talked about is over £2m.

Not earth shattering money but a win nonetheless.
