Celtic See Off Dundee United To Open 16-Point Gap Over Rangers

Celtic have opened up a commanding 16-point lead over Rangers after a solid 2-0 victory over Dundee United at Celtic Park, with the Hoops finding that crucial second goal just when it was needed most.

As Rangers prepare for their trip to Dens Park tomorrow, Celtic’s dominance in the Scottish Premiership continues to grow, with the gap between the two clubs widening as the season progresses.

The game began with Celtic asserting their usual control, but it wasn’t until the 23rd minute that they broke the deadlock. Daizen Maeda was in the right place at the right time, pouncing on a rebound after a mix-up in the Dundee United defence. Luke McCowan’s initial shot was saved by goalkeeper Jack Walton, but the ball fell kindly to Maeda, who calmly slotted it home to give Celtic the lead. It was a well-deserved opener after Celtic’s early pressure and a sign of things to come.

Dundee United had their moments, especially in the second half when they looked to get back into the game. However, Celtic’s defence held firm, and it wasn’t until the 83rd minute that the Hoops secured all three points. Reo Hatate made sure of the result with a clinical finish, after Maeda laid the ball back to the penalty spot, a clever dummy from Paulo Bernardo allowed Hatate to rifle it past Walton, sealing a 2-0 victory.

Despite Dundee United’s best efforts, Celtic’s superiority in both attack and defence was clear. The Hoops continued to dominate possession and were never really troubled after their second goal. With a 16-point lead over Rangers, the pressure is now on Philippe Clement’s side to respond Tomorrow night in Dundee.

As the season enters the business end, Celtic’s consistency is proving key in their bid for another league title. With this victory, the Hoops continue to lead the Premiership, and while Rangers will look to close the gap, Celtic’s form shows no sign of slowing down.
