Celtic have publicly expressed its dissatisfaction following the SFA’s decision to dismiss their appeal against Hyun-Jun Yang’s red card.
In a statement released on Tuesday night, the club conveyed its surprise and profound disappointment over the ruling, which upholds Yang’s two-match ban resulting from a controversial incident in the recent match against Hearts.
The statement read: “We have received notification that the club’s claim has been dismissed.
“Clearly we are surprised and extremely disappointed at this decision.”
The incident in question involved Yang receiving a red card for a high boot on Alex Cochrane—a decision that immediately sparked debate and criticism, especially from Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers’ critique of the decision, especially his pointed remarks about John Beaton’s involvement in the VAR process, highlighted the club’s frustrations with the officiating and the use of VAR in the league. Despite the club’s effort to have the red card overturned through a fast-tracked appeal process, the SFA’s decision to dismiss the claim means Celtic will face Livingston and St Johnstone without Yang’s contribution on the pitch.
