Celtic Reject Russian Club’s Bold Approach for Japanese Star – Report

Celtic have turned down an approach from an unnamed Russian club in the Mir Premier League for their star midfielder Reo Hatate. The Scottish champions rejected the invitation to begin transfer talks before even discussing financial terms.

MailSport claims the reluctance is partly due to Hatate’s importance to the team, but also because of concerns about engaging with Russian clubs amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Since joining Celtic two and a half years ago, Hatate has become a key player, making a significant impact. Last season was probably Reo’s most challenging campaign, having to deal with not one but two long term injuries. He managed to get fit for the title run-in where he helped the Hoops get over the line in the league and was part of the team who beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

In a recent interview with Japanese media, Hatate expressed his ambition to play in one of Europe’s top leagues. The Russian league, however, is not on his radar, making a move to the unnamed club even less likely.

Meanwhile, Hatate and his Celtic teammates are preparing for their pre-season tour in the USA. The tour includes high-profile matches against English champions Manchester City, Chelsea, and DC United. These games will provide a solid test for the squad ahead of the new season, offering Hatate and his teammates a chance to gauge their readiness against top-tier competition.

Celtic fans will be relieved to see Hatate remain with the club for now, as they look to build on their domestic success and make a stronger impression in European competition. The midfielder’s future will undoubtedly continue to be a topic of interest, but for the moment, he remains an integral part of the Celtic squad.
