Celtic Receive Pleasant Financial Boost

Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis last night signed for Mexican top-flight side Cruz Azul, departing MLS outfit Atlanta United just under a year and a half after moving Stateside.

Giakoumakis scored 24 goals in 43 Atlanta appearances as he joins his third new club in as many years.

From the move, Celtic are set to make a healthy financial gain. Indeed, according to a report from Inside Futbol, the Scottish champions are due 20% of any profit Atlanta makes on the sale of Giakoumakis.

They let him go to Mexico for £7.9m, making £4.5m in the process. From this, the Hoops will gain a pleasant £900,000.

Funds coming into the club will be greatly welcomed as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his squad for the new season.

Several areas in the squad need addressing as the Hoops look to defend their title and make it four in a row.

European progression will also be a priority, with the Bhoys looking to make a mark in the new-look Champions League, from which they will gain even more financially.
