Plymouth Argyle have made a formal approach to take Celtic defender Stephen Welsh on loan for the upcoming season, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The 25-year-old centre-back is currently considering his options, with Celtic weighing up the proposal from the English League 1 side. The offer does not appear to include an option to buy, and Welsh remains under contract at Parkhead until 2027.
It could see him join up with former Celt Conor Hazard
Welsh spent the second half of last season on loan at KV Mechelen, where he impressed in Belgium’s top flight. The Belgian club were keen to make the move permanent this summer, but failed to agree terms with Celtic over a transfer fee.
He returned to Lennoxtown for pre-season but picked up a shoulder injury during the friendly against Cork City. That temporarily stalled any movement on his future, but he’s since returned to training, and now looks set for another spell away from the club.
For Welsh, who has made 62 first-team appearances for Celtic, a move to Plymouth would represent another chance to play regular football in a competitive league, something that has been hard to come by in Glasgow since his early breakthrough.
