Celtic Player of the Year Nominees Detailed

As the season near it’s conclusion, it’s time to look at who should win Celtic’s Player of the Year for 2025. The Hoops have had a strong season, and many players have played a big part in that. Here are the names up for the award – and every one of them has a good reason to win.

Kasper Schmeichel has been a big success in goal. He joined the Hoops last summer and made a huge impact right away. He kept a clean sheet in his first six league games – something no other keeper had done in over 100 years. He also saved a key penalty in the League Cup final against Rangers. He’s shown real class and calmness all year.

Alistair Johnston has been solid at right-back. He defends well, works hard, and has even added goals and assists. He signed a new earlier this season and has become a real fan favourite since his arrival.

Cameron Carter-Vickers has been a rock at the back for Celtic this season. With 39 appearances and two goals, including one in the recent 5–1 win, he’s shown just how important he is to the team. After shaking off an early toe injury, he’s returned to full strength and delivered week in, week out, with his calm defending and leadership playing a key role in Celtic’s strong season at home and in Europe.

Callum McGregor, the captain, has led the Bhoys once again. He controls the game from midfield and scored 9 goals this season. He is calm under pressure and always sets the tone for the rest of the team.

Reo Hatate has shown his talent in many big games. After missing time with injuries last year, he has come back strong. His two goals against Kilmarnock last weekend showed his quality and attacking threat.

Nicolas Kühn had a brilliant start to the season, scoring 18 goals and providing 7 assists, including a standout performance against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. However, since January, his form has significantly dropped off, with his recent performances lacking the impact he showed early on.

Daizen Maeda has been on fire. He has scored 31 goals and works harder than anyone on the pitch. He has now scored in eight home starts in a row – something not done since Henrik Larsson.

Maeda is undoubtedly the runaway favourite to win Celtic’s Player of the Year for 2025. After an impressive first half of the season, which included scoring huge goals and even netting the winning penalty in the Premier Sports Cup final, he has taken his game to another level since the new year.

Following Kyogo’s departure, Maeda has stepped up as a constant threat no matter where he plays in the frontline. His work rate, combined with his impressive goal tally of 31, makes him the most likely winner of the award.
