The 23-year-old is alleged to have committed the offence in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, on November 8, 2022. Court documents indicate that Bernabei was driving a Mercedes A 200 at the time.
The Argentinian, residing in Hyndland, Glasgow, was absent from Thursday’s hearing at Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace court. The case has been adjourned without a plea and is set to resume later this month.
Bernabei joined Celtic last summer from Argentinian club Lanus for a fee of £4 million under then-manager Ange Postecoglou. However, his time in Scotland has been challenging, with limited appearances in the first team and off-the-pitch incidents.
Despite his potential, Bernabei has found it tough to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup, largely due to the consistent performances of Greg Taylor. This season, under new manager Brendan Rodgers, Taylor remains the preferred choice at left-back.
Bernabei’s commitment was further questioned when he was excluded from the squad for the Premiership season opener against Ross County due to sleeping in for a team meeting. This season, he has made only two appearances, both as late-game substitutes. His last outing was over a month ago, a brief cameo against Rangers at Ibrox. Since then, he hasn’t been included in any matchday squad.
