Celtic have officially entered the race to sign Cho Gue-sung according to Sunday afternoon reports.
The South Korean striker looked destined to head to FC Mainz after they tabled an offer of around £2.7m. Football Scotland now report Celtic have outbid Mainz to become the new front runners for the striker’s signature.
The bhoys in green could be about to sell their striker Gorgios Giakoumakis to the J-League and will almost definitely replace him this window if it goes through. Cho has been on Celtic’s radar since before the World Cup and with things starting to heat up in the January transfer window, there could be movement within the next week.
Former Manchester Utd midfielder is in London negotiating on behalf of Jeonbuk. The K-League club seem resigned to losing their star player in this window.
Celtic have been very proactive in the transfer market. There has been a feeling this move is more reactive to Giakoumakis and his situation. If the bhoys can land a decent fee for the Greek striker, the deal for Cho will likely not cost as much.
