Celtic Open Contract Talks with Star Defender – reports

There hasn’t been a lot of good news going around Celtic Park over the past week. We lost Kieran Tierney for a record fee and then went crashing out of the Champions League.

As the bhoys get set to pick themselves up off the canvas against Dunfermline this Saturday, there could be some better news on the horizon with RecordSport reporting the club are set to open talks with Kristoffer Ajer over a new deal.

Ajer signed a new four-year deal last summer but that was before he made his proper breakthrough to the first team. The Norwegian is set to get improved terms on a longer deal.

Celtic fans are hoping the club can hang onto Ajer for as long as possible. The defender looks like a natural to be the next Celtic captain. However, if he continues to improve we could find ourselves losing the player before that happens.

The new contract would be welcome, however, as we saw from Kieran Tierney to Arsenal – all a longer contract will do is make sure we can get as much money as possible for the player if he has his heart set on leaving.
