Celtic On Brink of Title After Rangers’ Late Equaliser at Pittodrie

Celtic will have to wait a little longer to officially lift the Premiership trophy after Rangers snatched a dramatic late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie — but the title is all but secured.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are now 15 points clear at the top of the table with five games remaining. Only a catastrophic collapse and an unlikely goal difference swing could deny them now.

Aberdeen had looked set to hand Celtic the title on Sunday afternoon, going 2-0 up thanks to a stunning free-kick from Leighton Clarkson and a clinical finish from Pape Gueye. Rangers were on the ropes and thought they had pulled one back before VAR ruled the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.

Hamza Igamane gave the visitors hope early in the second half and, just as it seemed Aberdeen had done enough, Rangers struck in stoppage time to snatch a point and delay Celtic’s coronation.

It’s only a matter of when, not if. Celtic’s superior goal difference means one more point would seal the title — even if Rangers were to win out.

Brendan Rodgers and his players will now look ahead to their Scottish Cup semi-final clash with St Johnstone, knowing that a domestic treble is well within reach.

The title party is coming — it’s just been put on hold for a few more weeks.
