It will be a long time coming when it happens but Celtic must do what’s best for Liam Henderson and allow him to leave for pastures new.

The midfielder has been on the periphery of the squad since 2013 when he accompanied the first team squad on a pre-season trip to Germany.

Since then, the midfielder has only managed a minuscule amount of appearances. Without looking at the stats, I’m pretty certain he’s played more domestic games for loan club Hibs than he has for Celtic.

Loan moves to Hibs and Rosenborg since 2013 has certainly improved Liam’s overall game but the manager does not see enough in him to play him, even sparingly.

The 21-Year-Old has been languishing in the developmental squad, and while that’s not a bad place to be if you’re developing, Liam has passed that stage where he’s ready to play first team football.

Hibernian put a last ditch bid together at the end of the last transfer window in an effort to bring the player back to Easter Road on a permanent basis, but the terms of the deal didn’t suit Celtic and they rebuffed Hibs advances.

There is still a massive chance Liam could end up at Hibernian, if Celtic were to up the anti in the pursuit of John McGinn – a cash plus player deal could suit all parties.

What is clear is that Liam is ready to play first team football and if he’s not good enough to get into the Celtic squad then moving on would be the best for all parties.

It will be sad to see him go, he has been at Celtic since 2008, since he was a 12-year-old lad.
