Celtic Must Cut Ties With Rodgers Panic Buy

CELTIC have sparked into life over the past 24 hours as the club have a bid accepted for top summer target David Turnbull. While the club work on the deal to bring the midfielder to Celtic Park they must be aware of players who are now surplus to requirements.

One man who should be on his way out of the club this summer is a player who probably should never have been signed in the first place in the dying embers of last summer’s window.

With Scott Brown out injured and Celtic without a proper holding midfielder in his absence, Brendan Rodgers went out and signed Yousouff Mulumbu who was just off a good season with Kilmarnock at the time. The midfielder came in and made only three appearances for the club. The timing of the deal smacked of a panic buy by Lee Congerton and Brendan Rodgers and the two-year deal signed by the central midfielder was a shrewd bit of work by his agent who knew Celtic were up against it.

It would transpire Callum McGregor would be more than enough to fill the position of Scott Brown in his absence, so much so there was talk of the Celtic captain struggling to get back in the side.

Mulumbu went back to Kilmarnock on loan just five months after signing for Celtic. He has one year left on his deal but it’s time for Celtic to cut the chord and get rid of any passengers.
