Celtic Miss Out as Calvin Stengs Joins Pisa

Celtic’s hopes of signing Calvin Stengs are over after the Dutch winger sealed a move to Serie A side Pisa on loan from Feyenoord.

The 26-year-old had been on Celtic’s radar throughout the window as Brendan Rodgers searched for additional wide options, with reports suggesting the Hoops were weighing up a £5 million deal.

Feyenoord were open to letting him go, but the player opted for Italy after Pisa made their move.

Stengs completed his medical earlier this week before finalising a loan switch to Tuscany, with the newly promoted Serie A outfit holding an option to buy the winger permanently. That clause is understood to be set at around €5–7 million, giving Pisa flexibility should the Dutch international impress in his first season in Italy.

For Celtic, it marks the end of what looked like a promising pursuit. Rodgers has made no secret of his need for attacking reinforcements, particularly on the right-hand side where options are thin.

James Forrest, now 34, cannot be expected to carry the workload across an entire campaign, while Nicolas Kühn has already departed and Yang Hyun-jun continues to be linked with a move away.

Stengs, who can operate both centrally and off the wing, appeared a strong candidate to strengthen that department. Instead, Celtic must now look elsewhere in the final days of the window as they aim to deliver the extra attacking depth Rodgers has called for.

With Adam Idah on the verge of joining Swansea City and Michel-Ange Balikwisha arriving to cover the left flank, the need for another wide player remains pressing. Missing out on Stengs is a setback, but the club are expected to keep pushing for fresh options before Monday’s deadline.
