Celtic have not had the best track record of late when it comes to the development of their younger players. Until the Lowland league allowed a B team into the league, Celtic had little game time for any of their youngsters.

They have been farmed out here, there and everywhere with varying amounts of success. However, nobody has really made the breakthrough – Adam Montgomery is trying to be the exception at the moment and there looks to be a player there.

Some young players just aren’t good enough – we have to admit that but others have been let down. Neil Lennon wasn’t the best at giving the young players impetus and with no game time many languished at Lennoxtown.

There are still some players who are suffering from a lack of game time at the club due to the strict rules imposed on Celtic to play in the lowland league.

Kerr McInroy has been loaned out to Airdrie for the season and is enjoying playing football. The lad is being pragmatic when he says he believes his time at Celtic is just about up.

Speaking to The Daily Record, McInroy said, “It’s a difficult one for myself

“I want to play as many games as I can and show people what I can do. I want to grab a few goals.

“It’s a confusing situation for me. My head has been all over the place trying to work things out. So for now, it’s just a case of getting games.

“I have an option of another year at Celtic but this will probably be my last year at Celtic. So I need to get as many games as I can, wherever that may be.“

Callum McGregor was once nearly lost to Celtic’s youth policy under Neil Lennon. It’s out understanding Callum was set to be sold by the club after his spell at Notts County – only for the deal to fall through. Ronny Deila came in, spotted Callum’s talent and the rest is history.
