It has been confirmed their young Irish star Barry Coffey has signed for Cork City on loan for this season and will immediate join up with his new club.
Coffey has been coming through the ranks at Celtic but misses the age cut off for being able to play with the colts.
The midfielder will now have the chance to ply first team football with Cork City and come back at the end of next season ready to make a first team tilt.
We are delighted to announce the signing of Barry Coffey, on loan from @CelticFC until the end of the season! ✍🏻

Speaking about the loan move to the Irish clubs official website, the Celtic player was delighted:
“I am very excited to be here. I know Colin (Healy) well from the Irish set-up and that played a big part in me wanting to come to Cork City. It’s a massive club and I know myself where this club belongs, so I want to play my part in trying to get the club back to where it should be.”
“Coming here to get first team football and gain experience will help my career, and I hope I can play well and help Cork City as well while I am here. I like to get on the ball, get into attacking positions and get goals and assists, so I will give everything I can and hope I can help the team.”
Celtic have a good few young players who fall into the gap between the Colt side and the first team. Players like Luca Connell will have to look at what he wants to do. He’s yet to make the breakthrough at the club and looks unlikely to be handed the chance this season.
The squad is light on players at the moment – we might see more players going out on loan once the club have brought in more first team players.
The Hoops are currently working on a number of deals behind the scenes.
Barry could start his Cork career as early as Friday and we wish him all the best.
