Arne Engels insists he’s not losing any sleep over his record-breaking price tag at Celtic, as he focuses on delivering silverware in his debut season at the club.

The Belgian midfielder arrived last summer as Celtic’s most expensive signing, and while there has been debate among supporters about whether he has justified the outlay, his numbers tell their own story.

With 22 goal contributions heading into the post-split fixtures, Engels has quietly played a key role in Brendan Rodgers’ side as they close in on yet another domestic treble.

“I don’t care about the price tag,” Engels said, as quoted by RecordSport. “I’m here to just perform and to get better. I’m still young, I still need to learn.

“I think I have good numbers and good performances. But it’s not about me, it’s about the team.

“I want to be here to help the team and win trophies. I think I’m in a good place, I’m doing well here.

“We are still in the place to get the three trophies. That was a big aim for me.”

The 21-year-old has featured regularly in Celtic’s midfield engine room, contributing both goals and assists, while adapting to the demands of Scottish football and the weight of expectation at Parkhead.

Celtic have already secured the League Cup, and now sit on the brink of clinching the Premiership title, with just a point needed to confirm their status as champions. A Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen also awaits, offering Rodgers the chance to secure his third domestic treble across two spells in charge.

The Belgian has already shown glimpses of the quality that persuaded Celtic to make their summer investment. With the business end of the season approaching, he’ll be eager to play his part in bringing another historic treble back to Celtic Park.
