Celtic Manager Takes Cheeky Dig at VAR

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has had a cheeky dig at VAR when it comes to refereeing Celtic games. It feels on a week to week basis, if theres any ambiguity at all about a decision Celtic get the raw end of the deal.

We’ve been frustrated with the hand ball rule and the sporadic nature of its enforcement in Scottish football.

Celtic conceded another hand ball penalty against St Mirren on Sunday. VAR intervening to make sure Celtic were penalised early on.

VAR then intervened to take a penalty off Celtic. While we believe this decision was just about correct, there was no real chance of it going Celtic’s way. That might sound silly to some, and the decision to say Kyogo wasn’t fouled inside the box is a lot closer than some people might think. Just three weeks ago The Rangers got a penalty against Partick Thistle for something very similar with VAR doing nothing to downgrade it to a free kick.

5th March 2023; St Mirren Park, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, Scottish Premiership Football, St Mirren versus Celtic; Ryan Strain of St Mirren can’t prevent Joao Pedro Neves Filipe Jota of Celtic equalising for Celtic and making it 1-1 in the 56th minute

Asked about the decisions, Ange wasn’t being drawn to give any attention grabbing headlines. However, he did have a cheeky dig that nothing gets passed VAR during Celtic games.

“Look, I don’t know and VAR doesn’t miss anything by the looks of it – especially with us.”

Celtic maintained their nine point lead at the top of the table with their 5-1 win over St Mirren, extending their goal difference in the process. It’s onto Hearts at Celtic Park midweek. Let’s see if VAR can behave itself.
