Celtic have been dealt a blow in the chase for Crystal Palace youngster Jesse Derry, with the 18-year-old winger now set to sign for Chelsea.

The teenager had been on the radar of several major European clubs, including Bayern Munich, PSG, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, but it’s Chelsea who have moved quickest to secure his signature.
Derry, who has represented England at under-19 level, had drawn attention during his time with Palace’s academy and made headlines earlier this year when he netted against RB Leipzig for their under-21s.

Despite Palace’s efforts, the winger opted not to extend his deal, allowing him to leave for a compensation fee.
Celtic had been monitoring the situation closely as they look to bolster their options in wide areas with young, high-potential talent.
But it’s Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment of emerging prospects that’s won out once again, with the player choosing to continue his development at Stamford Bridge.

Derry was part of a talented England youth setup alongside highly rated Arsenal pair Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, and will now aim to follow a similar pathway at his new club.
Celtic’s search for reinforcements in wide areas continues, with the club still active in the market as Brendan Rodgers looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign.
