Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang could be set for a Parkhead exit, with Birmingham City making a formal approach to sign the South Korea international on a permanent deal.
The Championship side have entered talks with Celtic over the 23-year-old, who has found it difficult to make a consistent impact since arriving in Glasgow in 2023. While no agreement has been reached, Celtic are now actively assessing Yang’s situation and weighing up whether to sanction a move.
Celtic are locked in talks with their former assistant, Chris Davies’, club, Sky Sports report.
Yang has scored six goals for the club, but his inconsistent form and lack of end product have frustrated fans and coaching staff alike. His latest display, in the crucial Champions League qualifier against Kairat Almaty, did little to change the narrative. Starting on the left flank, he struggled to make any real impression, and his performance has only intensified speculation over his future.
It’s understood that other clubs remain interested in Yang. Legia Warsaw are still monitoring the situation, while Norwich City had previously shown interest before pulling back in July.
The player has told the club that he is keen to explore his options.
Despite being a regular starter at times under Brendan Rodgers, Yang has not convinced that he is up to the standard required for Celtic’s wide roles – especially with the Hoops desperate to strengthen in that area. The imminent arrival of Michel-Ange Balikwisha, combined with ongoing links to further attacking signings, has only increased the pressure on Yang’s position in the squad.
The key now will be what fee Celtic look to command for a player who still has time on his contract and flashes of potential. But with his path to regular football becoming more complicated, a fresh start elsewhere might suit all parties.
