Celtic Loanee Scores on Debut in 6-0 Win

Adam Montgomery made an immediate impact on his Livingston debut, opening his account in a commanding 6-0 win over Kelty Hearts in the final group stage match of the Premier Sports Cup.

The Celtic defender joined Livi on a season-long loan just 24 hours prior, but was thrown straight into the starting XI at left-back by David Martindale. It proved to be an inspired decision, with Montgomery playing a key role in what became a one-sided affair at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Livingston got off to a flying start, finding the net inside the first minute through Andy Winter. The early goal settled any nerves and set the tone for a dominant performance. Montgomery doubled the advantage on 26 minutes, finishing from close range after a slick attacking move involving Graham Carey, who slipped him in with a clever pass.

From there, Livi didn’t let up. They maintained control throughout, putting League One opposition to the sword with a ruthless attacking display. Despite the convincing win, their passage to the last 16 is still not certain.

Results from the remaining group fixtures, due to be played tomorrow, will determine whether Martindale’s side have done enough to progress.

For Montgomery, it was the ideal start to life in West Lothian. The 23-year-old, who came through the ranks at Celtic and previously represented Scotland at under-21 level, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Queen’s Park.

He made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Championship club and will now be looking to establish himself at Premiership level.

Livingston’s league campaign gets underway next weekend with a trip to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock.

Given his early contribution, Montgomery will no doubt be pushing for another starting place. If this first outing is anything to go by, the young full-back could become a valuable asset for Livi as they prepare for another gruelling top-flight campaign.
