Celtic Linked With Surprise Move For League Of Ireland Defender

Celtic have been linked with a surprise move for Shamrock Rovers defender Liam Scales.

As reported by Sun Sport, the Hoops have reportedly opened talks with the League of Ireland side over completing a deal for the versatile defender.

The 22-year old who turns 23 in just a few days is highly rated in his home nation. Joining Shamrock in 2020, the left-sided player has also had trials with English Premier League giants Manchester City and featured for his nation at u21 level.

Scales is capable of playing at both left-back and central defence – two positions which Celtic are in desperate need of cover.

That being said, many fans were shocked to see the link between the club and Scales. It seems like he is a talented player, but the League of Ireland isn’t somewhere which the club goes looking for players very often.

Of course, any player who joins Celtic doesn’t deserve to be instantly written off. We have seen examples of players coming out of the league and going on to become a success, with the best example being Seamus Coleman down south with Everton.

It remains to be seen if this deal will be complete. At this stage, it looks likely that will be the case, though
