Celtic-Linked Striker Dropped After 13-Game Goal Drought

Celtic are reportedly considering a move for Kawasaki Frontale striker Shin Yamada, despite the 25-year-old enduring a significant dip in form during the 2025 J1 League season.

Yamada, who netted 19 goals in the 2024 campaign, has struggled to replicate that success this year. His last league goal came on March 29, and he has since played in 13 league matches without finding the net.

In Kawasaki’s recent 1-0 defeat to Tokyo Verdy, Yamada was dropped to the bench and introduced at half-time, but failed to make an impact.

Despite his current goal drought, Celtic remain interested in the forward, with reports suggesting a potential transfer fee of around £1.5 million.

Yamada’s contract with Kawasaki Frontale runs until January 2027, but the club may be open to negotiations given his recent form and the player’s desire for a new challenge.

Celtic’s interest in Yamada fits with their strategy of recruiting talent from the J.League, following successful signings like Kyogo, Reo Hatate, and Daizen Maeda.

However, Yamada’s recent performances raise questions about his readiness to make an immediate impact at the Hoops.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Celtic will proceed with their pursuit of Yamada or explore alternative options to bolster their attacking lineup.
