Celtic have been linked to countless goalkeepers this summer as Brendan Rodgers’ side face the challenge of replacing Joe Hart who called it quits earlier this year.
The English goalie saw out his three-year contract at Celtic before deciding it was time to hang up his gloves and take a break from the sport, bidding farewell to an illustrious career.
One of the names linked to Celtic has been Aston Villa goalie Viljami Sinisalo, who spent last season on loan at Exeter City.
Shaun MacDonald, who is also a goalkeeper at the English League 1 outfit, has reacted to the speculation linking him with a move to the Scottish champions, saying it’s “great” for Sinisalo, who he thinks will take a step up the footballing ladder.
Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “He’s wasting his time coming back to League One next year. I’ve said that openly and he agrees. He’s got a year left on his contract, so he would probably have to sign a new deal if he was going on loan again. I would say move to the Championship. I saw stories about Celtic, so something like that would be great.”
According to reports over the last couple of weeks, Celtic will be looking to bring in an experienced ‘keeper for a lesser fee. But with Ben Siegrist also expected to leave this summer, another goalie could be brought in, opening the door to a player like Sinisalo.
