Celtic Legend Henrik Larsson Addresses Speculation Over Sweden National Team Manager Role

Celtic legend Henrik Larsson has finally spoken out about the rumours linking him to the Sweden national team managerial position.

Henrik Larsson

This comes after his friend and former defender Patrik Andersson suggested that Larsson, along with another ex-Celtic player Freddie Ljungberg, could be suitable candidates for the role following Janne Andersson’s departure in November.

Larsson confirmed that he has had some contact with a representative from the Swedish FA. However, he expressed contentment with his current lifestyle, which casts doubts over his willingness to take on the demanding job of national team manager.

While not completely ruling himself out, Larsson’s comments suggest a reluctance to return to the high-pressure world of football management at this stage in his life. His response reflects a desire for peace and balance, a contrast to the intense commitments required of a national team manager.

As quoted by Football Scotland, the king of kings said:

“I have had some contact with someone at the union [Swedish FA]. Patrik is a good guy. But I have way too good a life right now.

“I am doing too well. I travel a lot, play padel tennis and golf, and see my grandchild whenever I want.

“Right now I don’t know. We will see. It’s just a lot of speculation. Let them take care of that in peace and quiet, and they will surely find the right person in the end.

“It was a shame it wasn’t Olof [Mellberg], and I wonder what happened there – but I guess you’ll find out sooner or later.

“I hope they solve it. The most important thing is that they find the right one.”

Larsson’s comments provide some clarity amidst the speculation, highlighting his current priorities and perspective on life post-football. For fans, his words offer insight into the mindset of one of Celtic’s most revered figures, as well as the complexities faced by former players in transitioning to managerial roles. He’ll have missed all this free time while playing and then coaching, see he’ll be making up for it now.
