Celtic midfield misfit Kwon could be set for a permanent exit from Parkhead this summer, with Austria Vienna reigniting their interest in the South Korean.
The 24-year-old joined Celtic in 2023 but is still waiting for his competitive debut in green and white. After being brought in under Brendan Rodgers’ watch, Kwon was quickly deemed surplus to immediate requirements and sent out on loan.
He spent the whole of last season at Hibernian, making 22 appearances for the Easter Road side. While he showed flashes of ability for Hibs, he was used sparingly once they hit their stride.
According to transfer insider Mark Hendry, Austria Vienna are now back in the frame and weighing up a summer swoop. The Austrian Bundesliga side had actually attempted to bring Kwon to the club last season, but were blocked due to league restrictions. The club had already filled their quota of six foreign loan players and were unable to register another.

That obstacle no longer exists, and Vienna are now considering a permanent move for the Korean U23 international. It’s understood they’ve tracked his progress closely during his stints in the Scottish Premiership and still see potential in the midfielder.
For Celtic, any deal would likely represent a tidy bit of squad management. Kwon’s opportunities have been limited, and a permanent departure would suit all parties.
While no formal bid has been tabled yet, Austria Vienna’s renewed interest could spark a resolution for a player whose Celtic career never truly got started.
