Hampden will be handed over to UEFA before the Scottish Cup Final is set to be played and while the game can go ahead in the national stadium, UEFA have told the SFA they will not entertain fans inside the ground as they get the stadium ready for the Euro’s.
The restrictions are set to be eased again in just under three weeks time which would allow a certain number of fans into Hampden for the showpiece event but those hopes have been dashed.
Glasgow Live claim the club were approached about hosting the cup final, something the club did in 2014 during the commonwealth games build up
But the Hoops board knocked this back due to vital works taking place on the stadium.
Considering there have been no fans in the stadium for a year, you wonder what works they need to do that they can’t have done before now. The only thing we can think of is maintenance to the pitch. But surely that could still be done in time for next season if the club were to host the tie.
You feel for the four clubs still involved in the Cup. Surely alternative venues could be looked at to facilitate a certain amount of fans.
