Stuart Armstrong is back in Scottish football and back in the SPFL after signing a two-year deal with Aberdeen.
The former Celtic midfielder, now 33, has penned terms with the Dons following a brief stint with Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship. His return marks the end of a seven-year spell away from the Scottish game, having left Celtic for Southampton in 2018.
Scotland international Stuart Armstrong has tonight joined the Dons on a two-year-contract.

Armstrong was a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ all-conquering Invincibles side, winning eight major honours during his time at Parkhead – four Premiership titles, two League Cups and two Scottish Cups. His energy, drive from midfield, and knack for scoring big goals made him a favourite among fans during the club’s historic unbeaten domestic treble campaign in 2016/17. He also had one of the best songs in recent memory.
After racking up 215 appearances and 50 goal contributions over six seasons at Southampton, he briefly joined Vancouver Whitecaps before ending the 2024/25 season in the EFL.
Now, with plenty still to offer, Armstrong returns north of the border, where he’ll look to provide leadership and quality in Aberdeen’s midfield. The move represents a coup for the Pittodrie club, who are struggling for goals and points this season, despite having a good transfer window under Thelin.
