Celtic Interested in Japanese Attacker – Report

Celtic is reportedly showing a keen interest in Kanji Okunuki, a promising player from FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga 2, according to Sky Sport Germany.

The Japanese footballer has been on Celtic’s radar, with the club’s scouts monitoring his performances over the past few weeks.

As of now, there has been no concrete offer from Celtic, but their interest signifies a potential move in the upcoming January transfer window.

He’s predominantly a left winger but can play in the attacking midfielder role and just off the striker.

Since joining the German second-tier side in the summer, he has four goals and two assists in 15 appearances.

The 24-year-old doesn’t seem to match Brendan Rodgers’ description of ‘quality’ and ‘experience’, it has to be said.

It will certainly be an interesting move if it does surface. Celtic currently have Palma, Maeda and Yang who can all play on the left wing and are fairly stacked in midfield.

Mikey Johnston is also at the club and is included in the Champions League squad.
