Gustaf Lagerbielke’s absence from Celtic’s pre-season friendly against Ayr United has sparked further discussion about his future at the club.

Despite being poised for a January exit, an injury to teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers saw those plans shelved at the last minute. Now, as summer transfer rumours continue to swirl, another injury could potentially complicate Lagerbielke’s situation further.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers provided an update on Lagerbielke’s condition, revealing tan injury kept him out of Celtic’s first pre-season match against Ayr. “Gus had a twist on his ankle and knee in training, so he’s probably going to be a week out,” Rodgers explained. This setback raises questions about the timing of any potential moves, as Lagerbielke’s fitness will undoubtedly be a factor in negotiations.
As Celtic progresses through their pre-season preparations, the situation around Lagerbielke remains one to watch, with his future at the club still uncertain. But, whether he stays or goes, Celtic will look to bring in another centre-back.
As good as Liam Scales has been, he simply isn’t good enough for Celtic at the highest level in the Champions League. He’ll need replacing this summer, with last year’s signings of Nawrocki and Lagerbielke not good enough to take over from him.
