Celtic in for German Left Back

Celtic have been in the market for a left back since the end of last season and they are still pursuing options before the window closes next month.

With only Izaguirre as a viable option in the position at present Ronny Deila wants to make sure he has cover and competition for the Honduran. Charlie Mulgrew can deputise there but lack of pace would see him get caught out against better opponents.

One player the club has been monitoring is St Pauli Left Back Marcel Halstenberg. The 23-year-old has been high on the list of Ronny Deila’s targets and with the season getting closer Celtic may be looking to test St Pauli’s resolve.

The former Borussia Dortmund youngster has a year left on his current deal with the German club but it’s unclear if he fancies a move to Scotland.

It will become clearer in the coming days whether there is a deal to be done.
