Celtic Hit With Two UEFA Fines: Anti-Monarchy Banner

It has been revealed this morning that Celtic have been hit with a charge from UEFA over the use of pyrotechnics and the anti-monarchy banner.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph confirmed the news with UEFA deeming the banner ‘not fit for a sports event’. The fine for the banner is £13,169.

The Scottish champions have also been hit with a fine of £3,700 from the governing body after the display before the opening group match against Real Madrid.

Celtic are not the only club to be fined in Scotland although they will likely grab the headlines due to the number of fines the club have now received in recent years.

Hearts have also been hit with a fine for fireworks and objects being thrown with the Jambos being ordered to stump up £2,400.

Pyro is not purely a Scottish issue with clubs such as Manchester City, Shamrock Rovers and Arsenal also being cited by UEFA who continue to have a hard line stance on their rules.

Many have taken aim at the governing body for their hypocrisy at times when it comes to political matters as it would appear that they decide if and when there can be solidarity shown to the oppressed with Celtic having previously been fined for showing support for Palestine.
