Celtic Held At Home To Aberdeen With Frustrating Second Half Performance

Celtic faced a frustrating afternoon at Celtic Park, after a dramatic 2-2 draw against Aberdeen in a match that saw the visitors stage a comeback in the second half.

Celtic started the game brightly, taking control of the match early on.

Reo Hatate opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a well-placed effort inside the Aberdeen box, after a cut back by Kyogo Furuhashi following a quick Hoops counter attack.

Just three minutes later, Kyogo doubled the Bhoys’ lead, finding the bottom right corner with a left-footed shot after a Hatate effort was deflected in Kyogo’s direction.

However, as the second half progressed, Aberdeen grew into the game and began to apply pressure on Celtic.

Aberdeen’s Ester Sokler ignited the Dons’ comeback in the 50th minute.

Following a clever through ball from Jamie McGrath, Sokler found himself one vs one against Kasper Schmeichel and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner, leaving Celtic Schmeichel with little chance.

Graeme Shinnie brought the Dons level in the 60th minute with a left-footed strike from outside the box which deflected off Auston Trusty past Kasper Schmeichel, levelling the match at 2-2.

Celtic struggled to find their rhythm in the second half, despite several opportunities to regain the lead.

However, the drama didn’t end there.

Just a minute later, Aberdeen thought they had taken the lead when a header from Slobodan Rubezic struck Duk’s arm on its way into the net, but the goal was disallowed by VAR for handball.

The final moments of the game saw Celtic throwing everything at the Aberdeen defence.

In a frantic finish, Alistair Johnston was involved in a controversial moment when he pushed Mitov into the net while scoring, but the Adam Idah goal was ruled out.

Celtic continued to pile on the pressure, with Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo coming agonisingly close to turning in a cross that flashed across the face of goal.

Dimitar Mitov’s touch was crucial in keeping the ball out.

In the 90+10 minute, a massive call from the referee denied Celtic a penalty after Luke McCowan was tripped right on the edge of the box.

Instead, Celtic were awarded a free-kick, presenting a huge opportunity for a last-minute winner.

As the match approached the final whistle, Mitov produced a point-blank save to deny a Celtic header.

A rebound half-volley was then kept out by a block from Duk on the line, showing the frantic and tense end to the match.
