While St Mirren were making their way into the semi-final of the League Cup on Wednesday evening and putting a dent in our title rivals plans for world domination, Celtic could have bee sending their own statement of intent.
We had been reporting for weeks the postponed tie between Celtic and Aberdeen could and should have gone ahead this midweek when both clubs were knocked out of the League Cup competition.
Instead, there has been radio silence from both clubs and the SPFL as to why, in a season where dates are at a premium, we did not get the fixture.

There’s obviously no guarantee Celtic would win the game but had the game went down on Wednesday night at the same time our pals across the city stumbled in the cup, it would have reduced our deficit if the bhoys managed a victory.
It’s all ifs and buts of course but it’s strange this fixture hasn’t even been spoken about as a possibility in public. The only thing we can gather is Celtic wanted a whole week to prepare for the Scottish Cup Final, which is admirable but when the league is always the priority, the chance to chase down our rivals has to be on the top of our agenda.
We move onto Sunday with the fixture still needing to be fulfilled in the new year.
