Celtic Groups Launch Campaign to Transform Celtic Park

A number of Celtic fan groups have gotten together to launch a new campaign to transform Celtic Park.

Launching today, ‘The Celtic End’, will be launched in conjunction with the Green Brigade, Bhoys Celtic and North Curve Celtic.

The Celtic End is a campaign open for all Celtic fans aimed at turning the lower tier of the traditional Celtic End (Jock Stein Stand) into an iconic full standing area at Celtic Park. This would be comparable to Dortmund’s ‘yellow wall’ in Germany.

The groups want to push the club to cater to supporters who want to stand during games. Creating a large safe standing section to a whole stand to bring the atmosphere to a new level.

The obvious hurdles for such an initiative being turned into a reality would be the costs involved. The North Curve at Celtic Park would have to be turned back into a seating area then a whole stand would have to be transformed. Above that, the groups would be asking fans who have sat in the Jock Stein stand for years to give up their seats and move elsewhere in the ground.

It’s a very interesting idea, and the folk behind the campaign say there has already been positive talks with the club about the idea.

The campaign gets underway today and when you’re at the Aberdeen game on Saturday, leaflets will be handed out to supporters detailing the idea.

It can only happen with the wider support of the Celtic fanbase. It’s not enough for just those who would like to stand to push this through. There has to be a willingness from other supporters for the club to act.

We will keep you all up to date on the campaign as if it unfolds.
