CELTIC FC women were defeated 1-0 by The Rangers on Thursday night, despite having the ball in the back of the net.

The Ghirls created opportunities but were let down by some of the decision-making in the final third. The Ibrox keeper did have to pull off a few decent saves, as Celtic pushed for an equalising goal, however, they were unable to find one, and finished the night five points behind Glasgow City.
The title is now out of their hands, and they’re relying on City to drop points as well as a Celtic win next Thursday.
The main talking point coming out of the game was the referee’s decision in the first half to disallow Celtic’s goal, after Caitlin Hayes headed in from a corner.
He felt there was a foul, but replays suggest otherwise. With no VAR in the women’s game, the goal stood.
Speaking after the game, Fran Alonso told Sky Sports:
“Extremely frustrated. We scored a completely legal goal in the first half. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Extremely frustrating.
“The decision is shocking. In a 50:50 game we managed to score, and it was disallowed for no reason, very frustrating.”
Caitlin Hayes said:
“I’ll keep it simple. I don’t think it’s a free kick.
“Sometimes you have to play the opposition and the refs in this league. At the end of the day I’ve seen it back and I don’t know where the free kick is coming from.
“He clearly has other ideas and that’s why he disallowed the goal.
“There was no explanation as usual with Scottish referees, without sounding bitter. But after speaking to the coaching staff that’s what the initial reaction was that it was on Tasha for the free kick.
“It’s so tight at the top and it’s fine margins of points and hopefully that one doesn’t come back to bite us.
“We’ve got to keep our head down and work towards the next three points.”
