Celtic Fans Respond: Match Day Morning Scottish Cup Update

Celtic welcome Hibernian to Celtic Park this afternoon in the Scottish Cup quarter-final, with a packed-out stadium expected for the 3pm kick-off. The big talking point in the build-up has been the sizeable away support, with Hibs selling out their full 7,000-ticket allocation—making it the largest visiting crowd at Parkhead in seven years.

Hibs’ recent form has seen them climb to third in the league, and their fans have responded in numbers. But Celtic have ensured the home end will be just as full, with all tickets now sold as of this morning.

Over 30,000 season ticket holders are on the home cup ticket scheme, meaning their seats were secured automatically, while additional sales throughout the week saw the remaining tickets snapped up before matchday. We at Celtsarehere threw down the gauntlet to supporters to come out and get behind the team in what is a pivotal moment in their quest for the treble, and they have answered the call.

While ticket sales suggest a packed house, there have been instances this season where “sell-out” games have still seen gaps in the stands. Some Home Cup Ticket Scheme members don’t always turn up, but with Hibs bringing a vocal following and sensing an upset, Celtic fans will need to generate an atmosphere to match.

On the pitch, Brendan Rodgers’ side have already beaten Hibs twice this season, with a 2-0 win at Easter Road and a 3-1 victory in the League Cup at Celtic Park. However, they were beaten two weeks ago at Easter Road thanks to an incredible decision by VAR operator Alan Muir, who contrived to guess Celtic’s goal should be chopped off with no conclusive evidence. The goal scored would have put Celtic level and on the ascendency for the last part of the game.

Despite gaining a helping hand from officials in the last encounter, Hibs will fancy their chances, but with a full house expected, Celtic will be looking to deliver another big performance on the road to Hampden.
