Celtic Fans Find Unlikely Ally in Derek Ferguson

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has thrown his support behind Celtic fans amid the growing anger over Dundee United’s pricing for the potential title decider at Tannadice this weekend.

Celtic supporters have been left outraged after being told they would have to pay £42 for a ticket to Saturday’s clash, while home fans are being offered a significant discount through a £10 ‘bring a friend’ promotion.

The club released a statement earlier this week confirming they had raised concerns with the SPFL over what they believe could be a breach of rules surrounding ticket pricing fairness. Celtic fans, already vocal on the issue, have now been joined by an unlikely ally in the shape of Ibrox man Ferguson, the brother of Rangers manager Barry Ferguson.

Speaking on the matter, Ferguson didn’t hold back. “Terrible. It’s terrible. It shouldn’t be allowed. I don’t agree with it, it’s bang out of order,” he said on Open Goal. “There should come a point where we say ‘no’ because money is tight for a lot of people out there. The fans get treated poorly. I agree with that — it’s the club that have all the money, not the fans.”

The pricing controversy has added extra tension to what is already a highly anticipated fixture, with Celtic needing just a point to officially secure their fourth successive league title.

It will be their 13th title in 14 years, sheer and utter dominance from the Hoops as they chase down yet another treble.

They have a Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen next month to secure the treble, with the league title all but won.
