Celtic Fan Media and What Happens Next

JOTA sat down with Celtic Fan media on Tuesday afternoon to discuss his move to Celtic and what he brings to the table.

The midfielder was in good form as he spoke about his qualities, his chance meeting with a Celtic fan when he was a kid and how he didn’t need the guarantee of European football to join the club.

CeltsAreHere asked if it was a big deciding factor in the player coming to the club – given he signed on after we qualified. Jota was clear, the lure of Celtic was enough to bring him to the club and anything else was a bonus.

You can watch the whole press conference below.

Celtic have rolled out most new signings to fan media and we got a Q&A at the start of the season with Ange Postecoglou and Dominic McKay.

It’s great to put our questions to new players but we’re pushing for much more.

We’re looking for parity with the mainstream media – in some instances – we outreach some of the traditional media who are allowed access to pre and post-match press conferences with the manager and players. That’s where we want to be.

It’s all well and good talking to a new signing and getting a feel for them but the questions Celtic fans want answering on a weekly basis will be pre and post-match when there are hot topics to discuss or maybe things to clear up that the mainstream media don’t pick up on.

Celtic Fan media continues to grow and thrive and while the media are doing their best to try and belittle what we do – we can only surmise some of them are irked at genuine fans stealing some ground.

We already have the first attempt by the mainstream media to co-opt fan media for their own financial gain. The Celtic Way and Rangers Review have been set up to look like fan media by Newsquest when in reality they are an extension of the Glasgow Times. Using their financial power, picking up contributors from Celtic’s social media in a bid to use fan media to their advantage.

More and more Celtic fans are waking up to that particular trojan horse after the Rangers Review posted an abhorrent and tone-deaf article on the anti-Irish racism fall out from the Glasgow Derby.

Every site/podcast has its own voice and can contribute well to what goes on at the club – sites like The Celtic Star and podcasts like the Cynic and ACSOM to name just a few – all very different but all engaging.

It’s interesting times in the media. There’s room for both fan media and mainstream media, we just want to see a more even playing field.
